WHAT HAPPENED IN NEW ORLEANS?

It was horrible in the Superdome, but the worst of the stories appear to have been untrue (via The Corner). As Michelle Malkin points out, the Guardian spotted inconsistencies in the witness accounts some time ago.

Aaron Broussard's much-publicised story about the nursing home - as told to Tim Russert - looks shaky as well, thanks in part to fact-checking by bloggers. Jeff Jarvis and Joe Gandelman, on the other hand, think Russert's follow-up last Sunday was OTT. Gandelman argues:

By doing a bit of overkill, Russert may have confirmed the view of journalists as frankly not nice people who seem to be more interested in going after drama and confrontation.

Although I suppose the same could be said of bloggers too. A tricky issue all round.
