Apologies for the brief silence. I got back to England yesterday morning, crashed into bed for a couple of hours, tried to write some posts and then thought I'd better wait until my mind had cleared. In the evening I went to a quiz at my youngest son's school, drank too much wine and stayed mysteriously sober. As a matter of fact, all those glasses helped clear my jet-lag. Tim Blair had told me a couple of days ago that the booze would do the trick, but I didn't believe him. Sorry, Tim, you were right.
Due to time differences, I usually arrive in the UK early morning with my body clock thinking it's midnight. By the time I get to my parents' house I'm powerfully thirsty, so I hit the beer about 9am. By 4pm I'm sloshed and on the point of collapsing from fatigue. I go to bed, wake up normally the next morning and voila! no more jet lag (and no hangover, either). Going the other way is problematical, though.
