Oh dear, oh dear. I never was a fan of the tuneless Billy Bragg, but his song for Rachel Corrie is beyond embarrassing. [Hat-tip: Mike]. A thumbs-down, too, from Harry's Place. Still, Billy shouldn't feel too disheartened. Maybe some nice, idealistic producer will turn his Dylan-inspired dirge into a West End musical. I'm sure the critics would love it.
Over in New York, there's still no sign of an end to the stalemate in the off-Broadway transfer of My Name Is Rachel Corrie. Not exactly a subtle headline in the Indy's account: "Jewish pressure drives Gaza play out of New York". [Via The Playgoer] It also mentions that Michael Moore has put money into the US version of the play. That figures.
To be sung to the tune of the Major General's Song...
I am the very model of a modern media liberal,
I've opinions nihilist, reactionary and cynical,
Tirelessly opposing all the nations democratical,
With hatred of America that borders on fanatical;
I'm very well acquainted too with governments tyrannical,
I understand root causes, both recent and historical,
About conspiracies I'm teeming with a lot o' news---
With many cheerful facts about cabals of scheming Jews.
I am the master of the false moral equivalence,
Mass graves and poison gas are easily forgivable;
In short, in matters nihilist, reactionary and cynical,
I am the very model of a modern media liberal.

Omigosh, this pains me on so many levels I can hardly process it.
