Words of advice from a disappointed admirer:
I really wish it weren’t necessary to comment on this. I wish it hadn’t happened....Neil, you need help. Maybe you can find a liberal eight-year old somewhere who could write some more persuasive polemic. We’d all sure appreciate it. Thanks, a lot, for making me unable to ever listen to "Heart of Gold" or "Old Man "or anything else you’ve ever done without thinking of the above insipid and ludicrous Bush-hating, left-pandering garbage. Yeah, you’ll get some headlines out of this — you already have. Is it really worth it?
ENCORE: There's no reason why a singer can't be left-of-centre, anti-Bush and intelligent. Randy Newman has to be the prime example. I'm glad to hear he's lined up some shows for the summer. His last solo show in London was magical. As was his last album, The Randy Newman Songbook, Vol 1, old songs dusted down at the piano. (Smug Euros got it in the neck, too, on the mischievous Great Nations of Europe.)
In the Observer review you linked to, O'Hagan says that the song "Political Science" is "as close to Chomsky - if the prof possessed a sense of humour - as it is to dear old Porter."
Please no!!! I love that song. Of-course I'm lustfully cheering on the bombing, most of the time. That's why it works -- pleases both sides.

Neil Young is a defunct wannabe commie. Anti-Bush rhetoric is so passe by now. Iraq and Afghanistan are models in civility and Israelis love Palestinians, Americans can travel freely around the world without fear, our economy is BOOMing, oil flow is plentiful, there is no need for illegal migrant Mexican workers in this country because Americans are ready and willing to do a better job, people are lining up outside the Army offices to defend our homeland, what is that silly Canadian complaining about?
