Ronnie Scott used to love telling the joke, "How do you make a million from jazz? Start with two million..." Does the same gloomy truth apply to the blog world? Internet entrepreneur Alan Meckler debates the possibilities with Weblog Inc's Jason Calacanis. Here's JC's summing-up:
You are correct that the majority of folks are not going to make a living from blogs, but that's because they choose not to try, not because they couldn't. If folks focus in on a niche and own it there is a good chance they could make half a living...
As the owner of a "niche" -- and I don't think I flatter myself there -- I'd like to hear a definition of "half a living." And, more importantly, where do I apply for it?
In the end, I think the vast majority of bloggers -- and I mean 99.99999999999 percent -- will only continue doing it if the mere doing of it is itself the reward.
