The article makes some very fine points, but ruins it all by starting with a myth, albeit a widely-believed one.

It is based on the assumption that liberalism is for the benefit of the less well-off, and conservatism is not. Many conservatives and Conservatives (of which i would count myself both, although I am not a party member) support libertarian policies because they believe that is to the benefit of those who are less well off. I happen to believe, and could present a strong argument, that it is so-called liberal policies of the centre left that are keeping people from greater affluence and self respect.

I could also suggest some individuals and groups on the centre and left who clearly support policy to their own benefit.

A liberal who thinks that liberalism is not rooted in a particular culture is surely being rather dim.
