Once, when I was walking near Oxford Street early one evening, a complete stranger punched me in the face as I passed by. I've also been head-butted while out for an innocent afternoon bike ride in the villlage where I live (with my two year-old son sitting behind me). So I can't say I'm totally surprised by these crime figures. (Some of Harry's commenters have their doubts about the methodology, however.)
The one consolation, I guess, is that things are even worse in Scotland.
I bet on both occasions, neither of your assailants was sober.
