Driving to LA and back in the space of less than two days was not one of my better ideas. I'm pooped, and I'm still only halfway through the return leg. (The motel I've just checked into is not far from Hearst's pleasure dome, San Simeon.) Still, it's been a fun trip. Had lunch today with Roger Simon, his wife Sheryl and their daughter Madeleine. Lots of exciting conversation about the Pajamas start-up. As he genially admits, Roger makes an unlikely CEO. But then again, there's no model for this sort of project. Pure seat-of-the-pants stuff. I like the new name that's been chosen (still top-secret) although I still think the P-word had a great ring to it.
Did a little of the tourist business earlier. Snapped the Hollywood sign and the Capitol Tower (the house that Frank built) and pondered the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard. Who was June Havoc, I wonder? And did you know Ed Murrow is there too? I didn't.
June Havoc was the sister of the stripper Gypsy Rose Lee. Do you remember the movie and play "Gypsy"? She was the real life Baby June. Later in life she was in many movies. I remember her from when she was the director of the Little Theater in New Orleans.
