Another entry in the Wall Street Journal's five-best lists. This time Tunku Varadarajan chooses the ultimate combinations of fiction and food. Iris Murdoch's The Sea, The Sea takes first place. It's good to see The Wind in the Willows makes an appearance as well.
My first introduction to Iris Murdoch was The Sea, which I read at my sister's Swanage house... grabbed onto it and could NOT release it until the final page. I've read more of her since--one I can't remember the name of--a book was so bad I left it behind in whatever country I was in at the time. But The Sea was really fantastic.
